PAX NINDI: Pax News

Pax Nindi and The Kids In Kenya - November 27, 2011

By Sarafina Kantharia on 26 Nov 2011

With the opening of our new textiles department, the children are already making headlines as a set of tailored costumes for HARARE DREAD travelled to Brazil to accompany the artist and his band during the first performance of Pax Nindi’s Povo song at Pernambuco’s popular Cena Festival in North East Brazil. Povo is the title song of Pax new album.

Pax Nindi aka HARARE DREAD is the Master of Roots African Reggae and an international renowed carnival guru, musician, journalist, consultant and cultural ambassador.

He is a strong supporter and friend to the Tumaini kids and was so inspired and touched by the children’s musical talent and energetic performances that he requested the same set of Freedom Flag Costumes to be made for his band to wear on their brazilian tour!

We hope to collaborate more with Pax in the coming years as he helps us to fly the flag high for Tumaini! Visit Tumaini site on

While all that is happening I m still reminded of my carnival life so I am documenting the carnival in Olinda and Recife for the Global Carnival Centre site. As an Afrikan it is a blessing to be in a Carnival that is so proud to be associated with Mother Afrika and you cant miss the Afrikan vibes in the streets and structures or in the respect I get when they know I am Afrikan!!

More Pax Nindi Music Out!! - December 2, 2010

Arguement Settled

paxCalinosPaulMark.png

While Im completing an arguement withe myself, my music is managing to get out using the new technical tools. This month I have managed to re-release DZIDZO, an album I released early 80s.

Also through Zimbalan, I have released a Dub album " NINDI IN DUB" featuring some of my weird dub mixes which were instrumental for me being crowned "The First Artists To Create Dub Mixes From Afrikan Music"

In preparation for the new POVO album I have also released through Zimbalan a single "Paxvision" which features a test of the new album.

As for my arguement which has been going on for a while and its simple. Harare Dread although seen as Pax's band is actually Pax Nindi and his band. As my music is not just reggae, critics have advised me to just go on as Pax Nindi which has always scared me in terms of loosing my old fans. When I toured Brazil for the first time I didnt mention Harare Dread so established myself as Pax Nindi and through the internet, my fans there know my Harare Dread runnings. That opened my eyes and now you will be getting most of my music and performances as Pax Nindi.

Thanks for all those dedicated fans and critics who have assisted in solving the arguement. My next performance will be Saturday 4th December at the New Empowering Church - Paw Paw Jam in East London Friday 10th at the Hat Factory in Luton - Povo Club After that will be back in Brazil touring during Carnival - Watch this space

Finally I Agreed To Do A London Date - October 14, 2010

Paw Paw Jam super special party is pleased to announce a rare appearance by Pax Nindi at the New Empowering Church this Friday 29th October.

Pax Nindi aka Harare Dread and his London based Afrikan reggae outfit appears at the Empowering Church to deliver highly energetic performance with original thought provoking lyrics in Shona, Chewa and English.

This is a rare London appearance by Zimbabwe and Malawi musical ambassador in celebration of his new POVO album to be released end of 6th December followed by another Brazilian Tour in January 2011. Known as the master of roots Afrikan reggae and being the first Afrikan artists to dub the sounds of Afrika, Pax’s rare appearance is an event not to miss.

Following a successful tour in Brazil early in the year, Pax will be performing some of the new songs from the new album recorded during the tour featuring the cream of Pernambuco's music scene from reggae through rock to the traditional maracatu music. Pax Harare Dread in concerts is dubbed "A site not to miss".

As usual, the performance will be complimented by visuals from Malawi, Zimbabwe and UK projected by young up and coming London Vjs or dedicated fans.

Friday October 29th 9pm-4am Tickets £5 and £8 after 11pm

The New Empowering Church 1a Westgate St, London E8 3RL
The rest of the party line up on the night includes; Mashasha & Sam - African Drums'n'Bass. Unmissable; Lutuli - raw rocking Afro-punk.; DJ Crofton Black - Reggae/African beats.; DJ Neil Bennun - Kwaito/African Hiphop and of course Pax Nindi (aka Harare Dread) - Heavy roots Afrikan -reggae vibes.

First Performance of POVO - January 2, 2010

The following video is a snippet of Pax's show in Cena Brazil where he performed his new song Povo which is also the title track of the upcoming Povo album. Before the concert, the band in Brazil had rehearsed the day before and judging with the audience response, it is a good choice for an album title track. As the audio in the film was recorded directly from the camera, you may experience a bit of distortion in the song.

We are keen to hear your comments on Pax's music so please do not hesitate to sign the guestbook and make your comments or ask anything.

PAX NINDI Live In Brazil Video - January 1, 2010

The video below features the song Batanayi (Unite) working with the best reggae artists in Pernambuco courtsey Marcelo Santana. The full unedited version will soon be available for download or on DVD - Watch this space or visit www.globalcarnivalcentre.com

Povo Album News via Brazil - November 29, 2009

My mini tour in Brazil last year (15 - 25 November 09) has been the reason for delaying the release of the POVO album now due out early in the year.

The delay is very positive as following my performances in Recfe and Olinda I found out that the Reggae band I toured with as my backing band (courtsey Marcelo Santana) and the Maracatu groups I guested with all wanted to be part of the album. A day before my departure my agent Producar Br booked a studio and I ran non stop recording sessions with Porto Rico maracatu group and my reggae band. The results are owesome and cant wait to see the reaction from my critics - its going to be an album of Reggae meeting Pax Afrikan beats, Maracatu mixing with Harare Dread Afrikan reggae! What with the feature of the best artists in Pernambuco dubbed with London horns and percussion. Watch this space!!

Having decided the title track is POVO which means "The People" in both Zimambwe and Brazil, I realise I didnt have a tune called Povo and the mini tour last week and opportunity to get into the studio blessded me with a heavy energy song I wrote to make the title track. Check the video of the making of POVO album. see link below to see part of it being recorded in Recife
